Description

"You whom nothing can satisfy, have you never felt desire?" The Bible, New Testament, Matthew IV

The legend of the man who sold his soul to the devil crossed centuries before reaching Goethe's hand. This masterpiece of German litterature has since become infinite material for questioning humanity and its transcendental fantasies.
Anna Van Bree takes up this historical and tragical figure and presents us a Faust from multiple sources : excerpts from the Goethe classic translated by Mathieu Bertholet who inserts his own reflections on the subject, but also passages from the controversial conference held by German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk, "Rules for the Human Park".
From there stems a profoundly political and philosophical theatre, questionning the collectivity, the individual, and in a more general way the foundations of the human being, through a network of thought.

Founded in 2002 by Anna Van Bree, the Company La Belgo-Suisse is a platform for reflection on contemporary theatre, on performance and on the possibilities of political theatre.

Premiere May 15th, 2008
